Black Venus in Faheem's 2011 show Modernity at Iceberg Projects

This wallpaper work is an appropriation of Margaret Burroughs' 1957 linoleum print of the same name, a continuation of Faheem's regular practice in remaking/transfiguring Burroughs' works as a means of reflexive dialogue in questions of the object's utility; here, Faheem multiplies and tiles Burroughs' piece as a reusable wallpaper, recalling Margaret Burrough's prints inherent function of exchange and travel, yet allowing its' existence to settle and instead literally serve as backdrop.
